WGN Radio summer reading list

For the summer edition of my WGN Radio bookclub show, I gathered Jacob Knabb and Lindsay Muscato to talk about books, publishing and live lit in Chicago– because all of those things are blissfully plentiful in Chicago, despite what the coasts might have us believe about second city-hood. In any case, as I promised on the air, here is a reading list of all the book titles, essays and articles we each mentioned in our discussion, so you can read your heart out.

The list:
Notes from No Man’s Land: American Essays” by Eula Biss
Meaty” by Samantha Irby
Vice article: “Portrait of a Coal Town on the Brink of Death” by Jacob S. Knabb
Shrill” by Lindy West
War and Peace” by Leo Tolstoy (I don’t remember how this one came up)
The USA Trilogy by John Dos Passos
Underworld” by Don DeLillo
White Noise” by Don DeLillo
Parable of the Sower” by Octavia Butler
Don’t Think of an Elephant” by George Lakoff
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” by jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith
The Argonauts” by Maggie Nelson
All titles by Marlon James
The Mirror Thief” by Martin Seay
Sons and Other Flammable Objects” by Porochista Khakpour
The Last Illusionist” by Porochista Khakpour
Painted Cities” by Alexai Galaviz-Budziszewski
Swamplandia!” by Karen Russell
Beneath the Remains” by Terence Hannum
The Fabulist” by Stephen Glass

I mighta missed one, but this is most, if not all of them that we discussed on the air. Boom. We’ll have another episode of bookclub show in the fall, so, this list should keep y’all busy until then. Heh.
